Leadership Balance SheetTM

Psychologically healthy individuals who assume leadership positions are mentally vital and have a psychological profile that is balanced between the extremes of being too low in some mental aspect or too high. That balance enables them to behave sensibly and to avoid the extremes of behavior that can be problematic for leaders and their followers.

Imbalances occur during leaders' development and are often exacerbated or mitigated by the environments in which they lead and the people whom they lead. Many of the imbalances identified in this assessment are the result of resisting change during self-development. However, even for leaders more than twenty-five years old (when one’s personality is fully developed), it is quite possible to correct many of these imbalances, once the leader becomes aware of them and is sufficiently motivated to do so. The balanced leader framework provides a way for coaches, counselors, and diagnosticians to understand leader behavior and identify problem areas that need to be addressed.

  • The Leadership Balance SheetTM highlights the importance of balance in leadership, which is often intuitively recognized but not explicitly addressed in most leadership frameworks.

  • The Leadership Balance SheetTM uses an adaptive and innovative measurement framework, which constitutes a fresh approach to the assessment of leadership. Within this framework, the questions that a rater receives are chosen based on the previously answered questions. This allows the survey to “drill down” in areas of leadership that seem to be especially strong or weak based on an initial set of questions.

The Leadership Balance SheetTM provides an interesting and unique option for in the assessment of leadership effectiveness and the consequences of imbalances on leadership behavior.
